Tetracentron: Tetracentron sinense

Current Condition: rare species. An autogenus plant, the tetracentron is a precious species peculiar to China. In the past, its resource was quite abundant; but due to over-logging, it is now only sparsely distributed in deep mountains, valleys, around brooks and cliffs.
Value and Significance of Protection: fossils of the Tetracentron have been found in the Eocene Epoch of the Cenozoic Era. An ancient relict, it is very peculiar in that as an angiosperm it has no vessel in its timber. For this, it has great scientific value to researches on the evolution of botanical flora in China, and the system and origin of angiosperms. The timber wood of the tetracentron is hard, thick and beautifully-patterned. It can be used in making furniture and paper. The beautiful tetracentron is also a good choice in forestation; it is an excellent ornamental and roadside tree species.
Geographical Distribution: at an altitude of 1700 to 2600 meters

The tall gastrodia: Gastrodia elata

Current Condition: vulnerable species. A precious medical herb, the tall gastrodia is now widely planted in the main productive regions. However, the natural resources of the gastrodia is quite limited, because longtime collection and over-logging has severely destroyed the natural environment of the species. In some areas, the tall gastrodia is under the risk of extinction.
Value and Significance of Protection: A precious Chinese medicine, the tall gastrodia has curative effects to many diseases. And its honey fungus can also be used in medicine. As a saprophytic parasitic plant, it has some value to the study of the phylogeny of the orchidaceae.
Geographical Distribution: it is mainly distributed in fringes of or glades in the broadleaved forest or the theropencedrymion. The tall gastrodia is rarely seen in thickly-shadowed forests. It prefers a soil with moderate rainfall and thick humus horizon.

The Henry emmenopherys: Emmenopterys henryi

Current Condition: rare species. The Henry emmenopherys is an associated tree species in the deciduous broadleaved forest or mixed forest of ever-green and deciduous broadleaved forest in the lower or middle subtropical mountains. Although widely distributed, they grow in a sparse manner. Due to disforestation for farming  and over-logging, as well as low germination ratio, the distribution area and number of the henry emmennopherys have decreased a lot. Now, big old trees are rarely seen. Value and Significance of Protection: an autogenus plant indigenous to China, it has some significance to researches on the phylogeny of the rubiaceae and the flora of south and southwest China. The timber wood of the Henry emmenopherys can be used in house-building and furniture. Apart from that, the big, beautiful, brilliant flowers of the Henry emmenopherys also make it an excellent ornamental plant. Geographical Distribution: sparsely distributed at an altitude of 1400 to 1500 meters.

The round-leafed magnolia: Magnolia sinensis

Current Condition: vulnerable species. It is mainly distributed in a limited area of central and north Sichuan. Due to the deterioration of natural vegetation, and over-barking for that its bark can take the place of officinal magnolia in medicine, the number of wild round-leafed magnolia decreased rapidly.
Geographical Distribution: It is only found in Tianquan, Lushan and Wenchuan of Sichuan province. The round-leafed magnolia grow in the forest borders and shrubberies at an altitude of 2000 to 2600meters.
Value and Significance of Protection: a primitive member of the magnolia genus, it has significance to the study on the phylogeny of the magnolia genus. With big and beautiful flowers, it can be introduce into gardening as an ornamental plant.

Dysosmatis

Current Condition: vulnerable species. Although the dysosmatis has a relatively wide distribution, it grows sparsely; and because its rhizome and roots can be used as medicine and there is only wild dysosmatis, it is over-collected. As a result, both its distribution area and number decreased sharply. The dysosmatis urgently awaits protection.
Value and Significance of Protection: it is a common folk Chinese medicine. Its rhizome and root contain xylans like podophyllotoxin, dehydropodophyllotoxin, deoxypodophyllotoxin that inhibits animal tumors. However, these xylans is poisonous. Clinically, dysosmatis is used in treating snakebites, skin and external diseases and mastadenoma. Because of its peculiar leaf shape, it is also used as an ornamental plant.
Geographical Distribution: at an altitude of 1400 to 1850 meters
