Qiandao Lake-the lake with charming scene
 Qiandao Lake is actually a big reservoir located at the upper reaches of the Xin'an River in Chun'an County in Zhejiang Province. It has a length of about 150km with the widest part reaching over 10km and covers an area of 580km2 with a storage capacity of 17.8 billion cubic metres.
The lake is 180km from the city of Hangzhou and 100km from Mt.Huangshan. It became a new tourist destination recently.
The sublime lake is famous for its green hills, clear water, fascinating caves and odd rocks. It is dotted with 1078 different islands. On the Longshan Island at the center of the lake, there is a memorial temple of Lord Hairui, an upright official in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The Yaoshan Island in the east of the lake is just like a fairyland with dense bushes and refreshing springs. Steep cliffs tower the Tiemaoshan Island. Thousand of birds perch and nest on the Birds Island and fragrance flows all around the Osmanthus Island and Peach Island. Canoeing on the lake, you feel like wandering in a green fairyland, vividly described by Li Bai (a great poet in Tang Dynasty) in his poem: "Man stroll in a transparent mirror, and birds fly through the screen". Not far from the lake, there is the Fuxi Stone Forest crowned as the first stone forest in East China.
From Qiandao Lake through Jiande County, after an hour's drive, you will arrive in the City of Meicheng, which was also called Yanzhou in history. The city was constructed by a hermit Yan Ziling in East Han Dynasty (25 BC-220 BC), who was a classmate of Emperor Liu Xiu (the first emperor in East Han Dynasty) in his childhood. When the emperor invited him to be an official of his empire, Mr. Yan refused and lived in seclusion here.
 The Fuchun River goes from Meicheng to the Fishing Platform of Yan Ziling. Along both sides of the river stand towering remarkable peaks. There is a famous saying to describe the current in the river: you can travel 7 li when there is strong wind and 70 li when it is calm. The famous painter Huang Gongwang of Yuan Dynasty portrayed the beautiful scenery in his priceless painting. The so-called Fishing Platform of Yan Ziling is where he used to angle in his hermitage.
The verse of Chairman Mao and Mr. Liu Yazi is quoted from this classical poem: the Kunming Lake is not shallow at all; on the contrary, it is a better place than Fuchun River to watch fish.
