Zhaoqing Xinghu Lake-the green treasure-house

pavilion in the lake centerIn the north of Xijiang River where the Tropic of Cancer crosses, there lies the Star Lake, a national scenic spot in Zhaoqing City, Guangdong Province, which includes the two parts of the Seven-star Rock and the Dinghu Mountain.

Zhaoqing was first called Gaoyao in Qin and Han Dynasty, and was later named Duanzhou in Sui and Tang Dynasty. After Song Dynasty, the Prefecture of Zhaoqing was established. The Star Lake is also called the Seven-star Rock, which is located 4km north of Zhaoqing City. Within the spot, ripples spread the lake and stones intersperse with rocks. It is endowed with five lakes, six mounds, seven rocks and eight caves. Hence, it has all the scenery in Hangzhou and Guilin, that is, the clear water of the West Lake and the green hills of Guilin.

The five lakes (Seawave Lake, Central Lake, East Lake, Inner Lake and Green Lotus Lake) are connected by bridge openings with a total area of 8km2. The dams between the lakes are 20km long lined up with willows and flamboyant trees to produce a charming view.

The Seven Rocks are actually the seven steep peaks standing disorderly in the lake area. They are the Langfeng Peak, the Yuping Peak, the Shishi Peak, the Tiangui Peak, the Chanchu Peak, the Xianzhang Peak and the Apo Peak, which scatter like the seven stars of the Big Dipper.

Seven-star PeaksWhere there are peaks there are caves. The essence of the caves in the lake area is that it has a subtropical characteristic. The peaks and caves of limestone dot around the land just like stars upon the lake. They add to the charm and glories of the southern lands with stalactites, stalagmites, stone shoots, stone beams and stone forest inside the caves.  กกกก
The Dinghu (Ding means pot) Mountain is around 18km northeast of Zhaoqing City. It was first named Dinghu (Ding means top) Mountain because it has a lake on the top. Later it changed to the present name according to a legend that Emperor Huang once made pots here.

Waterfall down from Dinghu MountainThe mountain is covered by thick forestry and abundant in vegetation resources with more than 1700 advanced species of plant, including those rare ones in the world such as spinulose tree fern, sago cycas, hook camphor tree, and Chinese ilex, etc. This land has already been enlisted as a nature preservation zone in China and included in the UN system of nature reserve.

The mountain appeals to the visitors with its natural beauty of serene valleys, gurgling streams and pouring falls. The Qingyun temple of Tang Dynasty and the Baiyun temple of the Ming Dynasty looming in the forest are both naos in south of the Five Ridges area.
